Every other year (in even-numbered years), Binkley Baptist Church joins forces with Barbee's Chapel Harvest Word Ministries to hold the biggest yard sale in Chapel Hill. It's traditionally held on the second weekend during August, rain or shine. The tentative date for the next Binkley-Barbee Yard Sale is August 18, 2012. Items are donated from all over Chapel Hill and beyond, and fill every room of Binkley's campus. Categories include fine clothing, garden plants, tools, electronics, knick knacks, collectible, toys, children's clothing and items, jewelry and, of course, books, books and more books. All proceeds from the 2010 Yard Sale will go to Habitat for Humanity for a local home build and to Family Health Ministries for community health and education programs in Haiti. The Binkley Yard Sale is a collaborative project that involves hundreds of volunteer hours from the members of both Binkley Church and Barbee's Chapel Church. It could not be done without the efforts of these dedicated volunteers. Below are some photos of the 2008 Yard Sale, which raised almost $40,000.               |
