Leandra Merea Strope, Minister of Music Leandra Merea Strope came to Binkley as Minister of Music in 2002. She conducts choral ensembles of children, youth, and adults, and occasionally works with instrumental and dance ensembles. Leandra earned her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Meredith College, her Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the Yale School of Music, and has done doctoral work in Choral Conducting and Literature at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She has served as Director and Assistant Director of ensembles at Meredith, Yale, and IU, as well as numerous churches, traveled and conducted throughout Europe and the Eastern United States, and directed the choral program at Abington Friends School (Middle and Upper School), performing a variety of music including oratorio and opera with students, for five years. Leandra served as the Lead Teacher of Choral Music at the Governor’s School of North Carolina – West, in Winston-Salem, from 1996 until 2005. Leandra’s other projects include Massage Therapy in Pittsboro, working with women, and developing a girls’ chorus in Chatham County. |
