A Choral/Conducting Scholar is a student who receives a scholarship for participating in a church music ministry. The program is designed to encourage young people to be involved with an accomplished Church Music Ministry, and thereby foster their growth into a lifetime of service in Church Music either as vocation or avocation. The students must be actively enrolled in a degree program at an area college or university. Scholars become full participating members of the Chancel Choir, and are encouraged to be active in the ministry of the church, enjoying a “home away from home.” The scholars program was founded in September 2016 through a one-time grant from Binkley’s Program Enhancement Fund and through a significant gift in Spring 2017 from Julie Lentz in memory of her mother and father, Eleanor Lentz and The Rev’d Dr. Harold Lentz. In addition, memorial gifts, designated, and sustaining gifts continue to make this ministry viable.
