BINKLEY GOLF OPEN
The much anticipated Occasional Binkley Fall Open will be played Tuesday, October 19, at the Quaker Creek Golf Course in Alamance County. We will gather at 9:30 for team selection. The first tee time is 10:00 AM. The Open format is Captain’s Choice with randomly selected teams competing for a Binkley Open Trophy specially crafted by Fred Schroeder. This fun filled and mildly competitive golf outing features a fun day in the sun, friendly companionship, golfer friendly “rules,” and a few prizes for closest to the hole, longest made putt and longest drives for men under 55, men 55 to 74, men over 75 and women. However, FUN is the name of this outing for all Binkley and friends golfers, those who wish they were, and those who want to be. The Open fee is $25 (make checks to Joe Clontz) and includes green fees, cart and a hot dog and drink at the turn. Information, registration and directions are available from Joe Clontz (969-4517) jclontz1@nc.rr.com Registration deadline is Sunday, October 17. Join us for fun!

Wednesday Morning Centering Prayer resumes September 15. "Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship." (Thomas Keating)
Beginning on September 15 a group will gather in the Chapel every Wednesday from 9:00-9:45 am for Centering Prayer. The time begins with a reading from Scripture or other devotional material, followed by 20-30 minutes of silence. The final 15 minutes is a time for prayer, both spoken and silent, when participants bring their expressions of thanksgiving and concern before God. It also includes a reading of the names of Binkley members who are on the prayer list. A unison praying of the Lord's Prayer concludes the time. If you would like more information, contact Nancy Cheek, 967-4348, cheekn@earthlink.net, or Velma Ferrell, 493-2066, velmamferrell@nc.rr.com.
In this time of massive job losses, Binkley has begun a weekly group that meets to energize, create ideas, and develop networking for Binkley members and others who are seeking jobs. The group meets on Wednesdays from 9:30-11 in the church library. Open to all members of the community. Cynthia Greene is organizing the group. For more information call her at 401-9503, or email at greenecynthia@yahoo.com.
